ID1N - The seal of authenticity that promotes First Nations products and businesses

Did you know that there's an official seal that identifies authentic First Nations products and services?
This symbol, represented by the Bear, is at the heart of the Identification Premières Nations(ID1N) initiative, a project spearheaded by the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission (FNQLEDC).
A strong symbol of identity and authenticity
The ID1N seal isn't just a logo. It's a marker of cultural identity and pride.
It helps First Nations businesses and artisans stand out in the marketplace, while offering consumers a clear benchmark for recognizing creations whose origin is verified (and verifiable).
The Bear, symbol of creation and affirmation
"We create to exist"
This phrase, at the heart of ID1N's mission, expresses the power of creation as an act of cultural affirmation and transmission.
Inspired by a work by Anishinabe artist Frank Polson, the Bear embodies strength, protection and resilience. It has become the face of an official brand that identifies and authenticates aboriginal products and services across Quebec (and who knows, maybe one day across Canada).
Behind this symbol lie three major objectives:
- Protect consumers by ensuring transparency on product origin;
- Affirm the First Nations identity by recognizing the value and know-how of creators;
- Highlighting Aboriginal entrepreneurship for a more inclusive and equitable economy.
Since its launch in 2021, the ID1N initiative has supported a movement of collective affirmation: that of a proud, creative entrepreneurship deeply rooted in its roots.
A footprint to recognize
The Ourse logo is easy to spot on products and posters. By choosing a creation identified by this symbol, you directly support local indigenous economies and participate in a movement towards responsible consumption that respects cultures.
A repertoire to discover and encourage
At id1n.org, you'll find an online directory of ID1N member companies, craftspeople and artists.
From crafts and tourism to gastronomy and fashion, each initiative bears witness to an authentic, living cultural identity.
A forward-looking approach
The ID1N initiative shows how economic development and cultural recognition can move forward together.
It invites everyone to become an active ally in this process, by promoting indigenous creations and contributing to the preservation of their cultural heritage.
Spot the Bear. Support authenticity.
Every conscious purchase helps to spread the creativity and resilience of our First Nations.

Gaspé sustainable destination
Sustainable development at the heart of our destination
Escale Gaspé is committed to making sustainable development a central, cross-cutting element of its strategic planning. It is aligned with Croisières du Saint-Laurent's Sustainable Development Strategy and shares its vision for the St. Lawrence destination.
The cruise industry contributes to the socio-economic vitality of Quebec and its regions, while helping to preserve and regenerate ecosystems. The St. Lawrence destination offers a human and sustainable experience with a positive impact, through the bridges we build between visitors and host communities, maritime, tourism and scientific players.
Escale Gaspé has taken action in recent years in terms of sustainable tourism development. It has equipped its cruise lodge with waste-sorting islands and a boutique showcasing local products. It also broadcasts sustainable and responsible tourism awareness content for cruise passengers, via a screen located in its pavilion.
The organization also rolled out its first-ever stakeholder consultation forum in spring 2025, participates regularly in the sustainable tourism best-practice sharing community Les Courants Durables du Saint-Laurent, and takes part in a social acceptability campaign run by Croisières du Saint-Laurent.
Destination Gaspé's brand-new, optimized website also stimulates the local economy and enhances the tourism offering by improving the visibility and appeal of local businesses. It offers a modern, engaging showcase on a centralized platform, while integrating rich content linked to local stories and the region's unique cultural events.
